Gaining space with a sliding door in Vic
In 1960s to 80s flats in areas such as Centre Històric and Les Adoberies, the original varnished timber doors on small bathrooms and bedrooms are often swapped for painted sliders. We check the partition, usually hollow brick, and open it only to the width of the leaf.
In homes in areas such as El Remei, Montseny and La Guixa we open the partition to the width of the leaf, set the metal pocket frame plumb and close it with plasterboard screwed to its reinforcements. The track stays accessible so the leaf can be taken out without breaking into the wall.
