Why a drain stops flowing
In 1960s to 80s town-centre flats we often find thin PVC or asbestos-cement wastes with joints giving way, and hard water narrows the bore. We replace them with thick-walled pipe in generous diameters so limescale and grease take longer to build up (mostly in areas such as Centre, Vallparadís and Antic Poble de Sant Pere).
For washing machines and dishwashers we fit a standpipe with its own trap at the right height, so dirty water does not flow back into the machine or overflow as it empties. The sink has a separate trap and an easy-to-remove waste.
