From fixing point to handrail: how we approach it
In 1960s to 80s blocks in areas such as Centre, Vallparadís and Antic Poble de Sant Pere, we find iron railings under layers of paint with rusted anchors inside the wall. If the support is damaged we repair it, and if the frame is still sound we consider restoring it rather than replacing it.
On staircases in homes in areas such as Ca n'Anglada, Torre-sana and Montserrat we measure every flight and landing, as the pitch is rarely the same all the way up. The handrail follows the slope without steps and the ends are rounded so nothing catches on them.

It depends on the existing fixings. If the base is sound, we reuse the same points or fix to the edge of the slab; if it is rusted or cracked, we repair it before fitting the new railing.
