Before the frame goes up: what we check
Town-centre flats in areas such as Les Delícies, Les Nogueres and El Paradís, mostly from the 1960s to 80s, tend to have cracked plaster ceilings and one light per room. Dropping the ceiling a few centimetres lets us spread the light with downlights and cover cracks without hacking off old plaster.
In bathrooms and kitchens in areas such as La Molassa, Vallvallida and La Vinya we use moisture-resistant board and fit a hatch below the extractor fan or stopcocks. Joints are taped and filled in several coats, and the ceiling is sanded ready for paint.
