From loft to room: how we go about it
In village houses in areas such as Barri del Castell, Barri del Sant Crist and Barri de la Cisa it is common to find old timber beams, some with woodworm or damp bearings in the walls. We check them one by one, treat sound timber and strengthen or replace only the pieces that need it.
For insulation, in houses in areas such as Santa Anna, Tió and El Remei we choose between mineral wool between the rafters, rigid boards below them or a mix of both, depending on how much headroom can be given up. We close it with a vapour barrier and plasterboard or timber lining.
