When does a railing need fitting or replacing?

  • It moves when you lean on it
  • Rusted iron and flaking paint
  • Balusters spaced too far apart
  • Stairs or terrace with no protection

What railing installation includes

  • Checking the base

We inspect the slab, steps or wall to decide where and how to anchor the railing.

  • Height and gaps to the CTE

Height and spacing designed so nobody can fall through or climb over.

  • Stainless steel, iron or aluminium

Railings in stainless steel, powder-coated iron or aluminium for balconies, terraces and stairs.

  • Laminated glass

Safety glass panels with clamps or a recessed channel, so no light is lost.

  • Chemical or mechanical anchors

Fixings suited to each base, with no cracking at the slab edge.

  • Handrails

Timber or metal handrails at a comfortable height, indoor staircases included.

Replacing a railing in Girona: what to bear in mind

In 1960s to 80s blocks in areas such as Barri Vell and Mercadal, we find iron railings under layers of paint with rusted anchors inside the wall. If the support is damaged we repair it, and if the frame is still sound we consider restoring it rather than replacing it.

On staircases in homes in areas such as Eixample, Sant Narcís and Montilivi we measure every flight and landing, as the pitch is rarely the same all the way up. The handrail follows the slope without steps and the ends are rounded so nothing catches on them.

After the visit and written quote we install the railing with floors and façade protected, then push-test it before we leave. We also cover the surrounding area: Salt, Sarrià de Ter and Sant Gregori.

Frequently asked questions

01

Railing installation in Girona: which areas do you cover?

We work in Girona in areas such as Barri Vell, Mercadal, Eixample, Sant Narcís, Montilivi, Palau, Santa Eugènia and Can Gibert del Pla, and also nearby: Salt, Sarrià de Ter and Sant Gregori.

02

How high does a railing need to be?

The CTE sets the minimum height according to the drop and limits the gap between balusters so a child's head cannot pass through. At the visit we measure the drop and design the railing to those dimensions.

03

Is a glass balustrade safe?

Yes, when it is made with laminated safety glass and properly fixed to the slab. If a pane breaks, the fragments stay bonded to the interlayer.

04

Can a balcony railing be replaced without lifting the floor?

It depends on the existing fixings. If the base is sound, we reuse the same points or fix to the edge of the slab; if it is rusted or cracked, we repair it before fitting the new railing.
