From loft to room: how we go about it
In houses on residential estates in areas such as Nucli antic, Les Arenes and Mas d'en Pinc the attic is usually an open space under a pitched roof that gets very hot in summer. We insulate between or below the rafters and fit roof windows with external blinds to keep the sun out.
For insulation, in houses in areas such as Sa Riera, Aiguafreda and Sa Tuna we choose between mineral wool between the rafters, rigid boards below them or a mix of both, depending on how much headroom can be given up. We close it with a vapour barrier and plasterboard or timber lining.
