From roof vent to drain: how we renew a stack
In areas such as El Raval, El Barri Gòtic and La Barceloneta, many stacks sit behind the tiling of kitchens and bathrooms that have already been renovated. We open only the strip next to the pipe, protect stairs and lift when carrying materials, and close with an access panel so nothing has to be broken out again.
In homes in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample, L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni, we use acoustic PVC or multilayer sound-insulated pipe, with sound-isolating brackets at every floor slab. Discharge noise then stays out of bedrooms and living rooms, a common complaint with old stacks.
A site manager coordinates access to each floor with neighbours and the property manager and, when we finish, we clean ducts, stairs and communal areas. We also work on buildings nearby: L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat and Sant Cugat del Vallès.
