Making loose façade elements safe in Barcelona.
In Barcelona we break out anything loose, treat rusted steel and restore the shape of balconies, cornices and mouldings, with the pavement protected.

What making the façade safe includes
-
Rope access inspection
We survey the façade section by section and tap the render to find hollow areas.
-
Removing loose pieces
We take down render, cornice fragments or tiles that could fall to the street.
-
Protecting the pavement
We cordon off the area and fit netting where needed while we work.
-
Treating reinforcement
We clean off rust and passivate the steel in balcony edges and slab fronts.
-
Rebuilding
We restore the original shape with repair mortar, respecting mouldings and edges.
-
Matching finish
Paint or render in the same shade so the repair blends in.
Balconies, cornices and render: where the damage starts
In areas such as El Raval, El Barri Gòtic and La Barceloneta, façades face the street or a lightwell, with pedestrians or terraces below. Before starting we agree working hours with the residents' association, notify neighbours whose windows are affected and protect whatever lies beneath the work area.
On balconies in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample, L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni, we break out damaged concrete to expose the steel, wire-brush it, apply a passivating coat and add new bars where it has lost section. Then we rebuild the edge with repair mortar and a drip.
A site manager coordinates the rope access team with the residents and, when we finish, we clear the rubble and leave the pavement clean. We work in the surrounding areas too: L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat and Sant Cugat del Vallès.

Frequently asked questions
01Making safe loose façade elements in Barcelona: which areas do you cover?
We do this work in Barcelona, in areas such as El Raval, El Barri Gòtic, La Barceloneta, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera, La Dreta de l'Eixample, L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni, and also nearby: L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat and Sant Cugat del Vallès. Before starting we visit the property and prepare a detailed written quote.
02A piece of the façade has already fallen. What should we do first?
Cordon off the area below and contact us. Our first step is to remove the remaining loose pieces to eliminate the risk; the permanent repair is then set out in the quote.
03Is scaffolding needed?
On most façades, no. We use rope access, working on twin ropes from the roof, so the pavement is not taken up by structures and windows are not covered.
04Can you carry out the repairs listed in an inspection report?
Yes. With the building inspection report in hand, we check each point on the façade and quote for each repair item separately.
