Multi-split in flats and houses: what we plan locally
In 1960s and 70s buildings in areas such as El Raval, El Barri Gòtic and La Barceloneta, a multi-split outdoor unit is heavier than a single split. We plan how to get it up the stairs or onto the roof, set it on anti-vibration mounts and work within the hours set by the residents' association.
In the multi-splits we fit in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample, L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni, each indoor unit has its own pair of insulated copper pipes back to the outdoor unit. We label every line at both ends so connections are never crossed, and pressure-test with nitrogen.

With a multi-split, one outdoor unit serves several indoor units, so it takes up less space on the façade or terrace. Separate split units give more independence if one of them breaks down.
03Can I run just one room?
Yes. Each indoor unit has its own remote and temperature setting, and the outdoor unit adjusts its output to the rooms that are switched on.
04How far away can the outdoor unit be?
Each manufacturer sets a maximum pipe length per unit and in total. At the visit we measure the routes and choose a system that stays comfortably within them.
