Open-plan kitchen renovation in Sants-Montjuïc.
We join kitchen and living room in Sants-Montjuïc into one brighter space, with a breakfast bar or island to gather round and flooring that runs through without a break.
5/5 · Google reviewsWhen does an open-plan kitchen make sense?
- Closed kitchen with no daylight
- You cook cut off from everyone
- A hallway eating up space
- No room for a family dining table
What opening up the kitchen includes
-
Wall assessment
We check whether it is load-bearing and, if so, an engineer specifies the beam or support.
-
Removal and making good
We take the wall down and repair ceiling and walls with no trace of the old partition.
-
Island or peninsula
A worktop or breakfast bar that defines each zone without closing the space.
-
Continuous flooring
The same floor in the kitchen and living room, level and without steps.
-
Effective extraction
A hood ducted outside so cooking smells stay out of the living area.
-
Zoned lighting
Separate circuits for kitchen, bar and living room, with spotlights and pendants.
From closed kitchen to open-plan living
In 1960s and 70s flats in areas such as Sants, Sants - Badal and Hostafrancs the closed kitchen usually faces the light well and the living room faces the street. Opening it up brings daylight from the front to the worktop, and the gallery can stay as a utility area behind a sliding door.
In areas such as La Bordeta and La Font de la Guatlla we size the cooker hood to the open-plan space and centre it over the hob, with the duct hidden in the suspended ceiling all the way to the outside.
After the visit you receive a written quote; before handover we check that the hood draws properly and each zone switches on separately, and we take away all the rubble. We also cover nearby: Eixample, Les Corts and Ciutat Vella.

Frequently asked questions
01Open-plan kitchen renovation in Sants-Montjuïc: which areas do you cover?
We work in Sants-Montjuïc in areas such as Sants, Sants - Badal, Hostafrancs, La Bordeta, La Font de la Guatlla, El Poble-sec, La Marina de Port and La Marina del Prat Vermell, and also nearby: Eixample, Les Corts and Ciutat Vella.
02How do I know if the kitchen wall is load-bearing?
We check during the visit: joist direction, wall thickness and plans, if there are any. If there is any doubt, an engineer assesses it before anything is touched.
03Won't cooking smells reach the living room?
Not with a properly sized hood ducted outside. We choose it for the volume of the open space and centre it over the hob.
04Can the existing living-room floor be kept?
If it is in good condition and at the same level, yes: we fill the strip left by the wall with matching or similar tiles. If none are available, we suggest a new continuous floor.
