What we look at before the first tile goes down
In 1960s and 70s flats in areas such as Sants, Sants - Badal and Hostafrancs terrazzo is the norm and is often sound. If the doors allow, we tile over it instead of breaking it up: less rubble carried down a narrow staircase and less noise for the neighbours.
With large formats, increasingly requested in areas such as La Bordeta and La Font de la Guatlla, adhesive goes on both the floor and the back of the tile, and we use levelling clips. That leaves no voids underneath and no lipping between neighbouring tiles.
