From loft to room: how we go about it
In older buildings in areas such as El Clot and El Camp de l'Arpa del Clot the attic is often part of a top-floor flat or duplex, with exposed timber beams and an uninsulated clay-tile roof. Before designing anything we check the condition of the timber and where rain could get in.
For insulation, in houses in areas such as El Poblenou, El Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou and La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou we choose between mineral wool between the rafters, rigid boards below them or a mix of both, depending on how much headroom can be given up. We close it with a vapour barrier and plasterboard or timber lining.
