From rusty steel to a sound balcony
In early 20th-century buildings many balconies are stone slabs or projections on iron sections, with wrought-iron railings. When the section rusts it swells and cracks the edge; we expose it, treat or replace it and keep the original ironwork wherever possible (common in El Clot and El Camp de l'Arpa del Clot).
Water is behind almost all the damage: we give the floor a fall to the outside, lay waterproofing under the tiles and fit a drip edge so water falls clear of the façade and the balcony below.
