When does a railing need fitting or replacing?

  • It moves when you lean on it
  • Rusted iron and flaking paint
  • Balusters spaced too far apart
  • Stairs or terrace with no protection

What railing installation includes

  • Checking the base

We inspect the slab, steps or wall to decide where and how to anchor the railing.

  • Height and gaps to the CTE

Height and spacing designed so nobody can fall through or climb over.

  • Stainless steel, iron or aluminium

Railings in stainless steel, powder-coated iron or aluminium for balconies, terraces and stairs.

  • Laminated glass

Safety glass panels with clamps or a recessed channel, so no light is lost.

  • Chemical or mechanical anchors

Fixings suited to each base, with no cracking at the slab edge.

  • Handrails

Timber or metal handrails at a comfortable height, indoor staircases included.

From fixing point to handrail: how we approach it

In older buildings in areas such as El Clot and El Camp de l'Arpa del Clot, many wrought-iron railings are set into the stone or brick of the balcony, and rust at the base has burst the edge. We repair that support before fitting the new railing and, if the balcony faces the street, protect the pavement below.

For glass balustrades in areas such as El Poblenou, El Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou and La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou we use laminated safety glass in a channel set into the floor or held by stainless steel clamps. Each panel is levelled and the channel sealed so terrace water does not sit inside it.

With over 20 years in home renovation, we visit, suggest material and design and set it all out in a written quote. We fit railings nearby too: Ciutat Vella, Eixample and Sant Andreu.

Frequently asked questions

01

Railing installation in Sant Martí: which areas do you cover?

We do this work in Sant Martí, in areas such as El Clot, El Camp de l'Arpa del Clot, El Poblenou, El Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou, La Vila Olímpica del Poblenou, Diagonal Mar i el Front Marítim del Poblenou, Provençals del Poblenou and Sant Martí de Provençals, and also nearby: Ciutat Vella, Eixample and Sant Andreu. Before starting we visit the property and prepare a detailed written quote.

02

How high does a railing need to be?

The CTE sets the minimum height according to the drop and limits the gap between balusters so a child's head cannot pass through. At the visit we measure the drop and design the railing to those dimensions.

03

Is a glass balustrade safe?

Yes, when it is made with laminated safety glass and properly fixed to the slab. If a pane breaks, the fragments stay bonded to the interlayer.

04

Can a balcony railing be replaced without lifting the floor?

It depends on the existing fixings. If the base is sound, we reuse the same points or fix to the edge of the slab; if it is rusted or cracked, we repair it before fitting the new railing.
