From hood to duct: how we fit it
In 1960s and 70s flats in areas such as La Vila de Gràcia and El Camp d'en Grassot i Gràcia Nova, we often find the hood connected to a ventilation grille or a crushed flexible hose behind the units. We replace it with rigid duct of the right diameter and a non-return damper, so smells from other flats stay out.
When an outlet has to be made in areas such as La Salut, El Coll and Vallcarca i els Penitents, we core-drill the wall, fit a sleeve with a fall to the outside and finish with a grille and non-return damper. The hole is sealed inside and out so no rain gets in.
