What we check on a wall before replastering
In 1960s and 70s flats in areas such as La Vila de Gràcia and El Camp d'en Grassot i Gràcia Nova the plaster is usually sound but full of patches, old chases and textured paint. A full skim is often enough; plaster and filler come up in bags, so a narrow lift is no obstacle.
After rewiring or new plumbing, which is common in areas such as La Salut, El Coll and Vallcarca i els Penitents, we fill the chases with gypsum, bed mesh over movement cracks and skim the entire wall, not just the patch, so nothing shows through the paint.

Once the plaster is completely dry, which depends on its thickness, ventilation and the time of year. Before painting we apply a sealer so the paint takes evenly across the surface.
04Can a wall with cracks be skimmed?
Yes, but first we open up and fill the cracks and, if they are movement cracks, we embed mesh so they do not show through again.
