Soil stacks in the Eixample: what we find in the ducts
In older buildings in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample and L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, the stack is usually cast iron, runs through a narrow duct or the lightwell and carries patches from different decades. We replace it in full, from the roof vent down to the ground-floor collector.
In homes in areas such as La Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni, we use acoustic PVC or multilayer sound-insulated pipe, with sound-isolating brackets at every floor slab. Discharge noise then stays out of bedrooms and living rooms, a common complaint with old stacks.
