Sliding doors in the Eixample: the wall comes first
In older flats in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample and L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, hallways are long and narrow and hinged doors clash with one another. Many walls are load-bearing and cannot be hollowed out; there we suggest a sliding door on an exposed track that runs in front of the wall.
In areas such as La Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni we fit exposed sliders on a track fixed to the wall with plugs suited to the substrate, and make sure the leaf overlaps the opening on both sides so no light shows. Stops and soft-close are adjusted last, with the leaf hung.
A site manager coordinates opening the wall, the plasterboard and hanging the leaf, and we clear the dust before leaving. Visit and written quote. We also fit sliding doors nearby: Gràcia, Sant Martí and Ciutat Vella.

02Can a pocket door go into an existing wall?
Yes. The wall is opened to the width of the door, the pocket frame goes in and it is closed with plasterboard. We first check whether any pipes or cables run through it.
03Pocket door or exposed track?
A pocket door disappears into the wall and leaves both sides free. An exposed track goes on the wall without opening it, but needs a stretch clear of furniture and sockets beside the opening.
04Does a sliding door block sound like a normal one?
A little less, as the leaf does not close against a frame. Brush seals and careful adjustment make the difference small; for bedrooms and bathrooms we factor it in when choosing the system.
