In older buildings in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample and L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample ceilings are often over three metres high, with cornices, shallow brick vaults or reed-and-plaster ceilings that crack. A suspended ceiling lowers bathrooms and hallways, while the original ceiling can stay in the living room.

Plasterboard gives a seamless finish and is the usual choice in homes. A grid ceiling has removable tiles on a visible frame and suits premises with lots of services above.
