Plastered walls in the Eixample: typical condition and our approach
In areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample and L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample many early 20th-century buildings have gypsum over solid brick, with walls several centimetres out of plumb and decades of paint layers. Before plastering we hack off anything that sounds hollow and set screeds to bring the wall back to plumb without losing more room than needed.
To get a wall plumb, in flats and houses in areas such as La Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample and Sant Antoni we fix screeds at regular intervals and angle beads on the arrises. Plaster is laid between the screeds and ruled off, so corners and wall-to-ceiling junctions come out straight.
A site manager organises the job; we cover floors and furniture and, when finished, take away bags, rubble and sanding dust. We work in the surrounding areas too: Gràcia, Sant Martí and Ciutat Vella.

Frequently asked questions
01Wall plastering and skimming in the Eixample: which areas do you cover?
We work in the Eixample in areas such as La Dreta de l'Eixample, L'Antiga Esquerra de l'Eixample, La Nova Esquerra de l'Eixample, Sant Antoni, La Sagrada Família and El Fort Pienc, and also nearby: Gràcia, Sant Martí and Ciutat Vella.
02What is the difference between plastering and skimming?
Plastering is a coat of gypsum that corrects out-of-plumb walls and leaves brick or old plaster flat. Skimming is a thin coat that removes roughness from a wall that is already flat.
03When can a freshly plastered wall be painted?
Once the plaster is completely dry, which depends on its thickness, ventilation and the time of year. Before painting we apply a sealer so the paint takes evenly across the surface.
04Can a wall with cracks be skimmed?
Yes, but first we open up and fill the cracks and, if they are movement cracks, we embed mesh so they do not show through again.
