Bathroom with a shower tray and black-framed screen

Bathroom ventilation in Ciutat Vella.

In Ciutat Vella we sort out windowless bathrooms and those with a small window that never dry: fan, duct and air supply planned together.

When does a bathroom need better ventilation?

  • The mirror stays steamed up
  • Mould on the ceiling and grout
  • A musty smell that lingers
  • Internal bathroom with no window

What bathroom ventilation includes

  • Duct inspection

We check the existing shared shaft or duct and whether it actually draws air.

  • Quiet extractor fan

A low-noise unit with airflow matched to the size of the bathroom.

  • Timer or humidistat

Runs on after the light goes off, or starts by itself when humidity rises.

  • Ducted outside

Ducting to the façade, light well or roof when there is no usable shaft.

  • Electrical connection

A protected supply kept out of the wet zones, in line with the REBT.

  • Air inlet

A gap under the door or a grille so fresh air can actually come in.

Ventilating a bathroom in Ciutat Vella: what we check first

In 1960s and 70s flats in areas such as El Barri Gòtic and El Raval, the bathroom usually vents into a shunt, a vertical duct shared by every flat. An over-powerful fan pushes air towards the neighbours, so we choose a moderate-flow unit and check the shunt is not blocked.

A fan with no air coming in barely moves anything. In bathrooms in areas such as Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera, we trim the door or fit a transfer grille and, at the end, check with the door shut that the fan is really pulling.

After the visit you receive a detailed written quote setting out the duct route and the type of fan. We also ventilate bathrooms in nearby areas: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí.

Frequently asked questions

01

Bathroom ventilation in Ciutat Vella: which areas do you cover?

We do this work in Ciutat Vella, in areas such as El Barri Gòtic, El Raval, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, La Ribera and La Barceloneta, and also nearby: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí. Before starting we visit the property and prepare a detailed written quote.

02

Can the bathroom fan share the kitchen extract duct?

No. Each needs its own duct: sharing one lets cooking fumes and smells into the bathroom, and the CTE (DB HS 3) rules it out.

03

Timer or humidity sensor: which is more suitable?

A timer is simple and enough for most bathrooms. A humidistat suits internal or heavily used bathrooms, as it only kicks in when there is steam.

04

What if the building's shared shaft does not draw?

We check whether it is blocked or shared with other flats. Sometimes the right fan is enough; if not, we look at a dedicated outlet to the façade or light well.
