When does a terrace need renovating?

  • Leaks into the flat below
  • Loose or broken tiles
  • Puddles that take ages to dry
  • Open joints and cracked walls

What the terrace renovation includes

  • Old floor removed

We lift the tiles and mortar down to the base to see the real substrate.

  • Falls and drains

New falls towards new outlets so water never sits on the surface.

  • Waterproofing

A continuous sheet or membrane, lapped and turned up at walls and thresholds.

  • Outdoor flooring

Frost-resistant, non-slip porcelain tiles with movement joints.

  • Parapets and wall details

Copings, upstands and sills that protect every junction.

  • Lighting and outdoor tap

Weatherproof light points, an outdoor socket and a tap for watering.

Renovating a terrace in Ciutat Vella: where to start

In areas such as El Barri Gòtic and El Raval all materials often have to come up a narrow staircase or a small lift. We bring membranes and tiles in manageable sizes, take rubble down in bags and protect the landing and shared areas while we work.

For the finish in areas such as Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera we choose outdoor porcelain tiles with the right slip-resistance class, laid on flexible adhesive. We leave perimeter and intermediate movement joints and finish skirtings and sills so water cannot get in at the edges.

We inspect the terrace and the flat below, give you a detailed written quote, and a site manager follows each stage through to a clean finish. We also renovate terraces in nearby areas: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí.

Frequently asked questions

01

Terrace renovation in Ciutat Vella: which areas do you cover?

We do this work in Ciutat Vella, in areas such as El Barri Gòtic, El Raval, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, La Ribera and La Barceloneta, and also nearby: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí. Before starting we visit the property and prepare a detailed written quote.

02

Does the floor have to come up to fix a leak?

Almost always. The leak is usually in the waterproofing or at an outlet, under the tiles. Adding another layer on top without checking the substrate only postpones the problem.

03

Which flooring is right for an outdoor terrace?

Non-slip outdoor porcelain that resists frost and temperature changes, laid with flexible adhesive and movement joints.

04

Can a terrace be waterproofed without replacing the tiles?

Clear membranes and coatings applied over the tiles work where the falls and outlets are in good order. On the visit we assess whether that is enough or the substrate needs rebuilding.
