When does laminate make sense?

  • Dated tiles you would rather not lift
  • Carpet or vinyl coming loose
  • Flat to let or sell
  • New floor without building work

What laminate fitting includes

  • Checking the base

We make sure the existing floor is flat, solid and dry.

  • Insulating underlay

Damp-proof membrane and acoustic foam under the boards.

  • Click-fit boards

Locked together without glue, laid to suit the natural light.

  • Door trimming

We trim the doors so they open freely over the new floor.

  • Threshold strips

Neat transitions at doorways and where floors meet.

  • New skirting

Painted MDF or matching the laminate, with no visible nails.

A new floor without building work in Ciutat Vella

In older buildings in areas such as El Barri Gòtic and El Raval encaustic tile floors often have loose pieces and uneven patches. Before laying laminate we fix or remove anything that moves and level with compound, since a click system needs a flat base.

In houses and flats in areas such as Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera the skirting is fixed to the wall, not the floor, so the laminate can expand. We use lacquered MDF or a board matching the planks, with mitred corners and sealed joints.

During the visit we check the current floor and the doors, then give you a detailed written quote. We also fit laminate in nearby areas: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí.

Frequently asked questions

01

Laminate flooring installation in Ciutat Vella: which areas do you cover?

We do this work in Ciutat Vella, in areas such as El Barri Gòtic, El Raval, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, La Ribera and La Barceloneta, and also nearby: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí. Before starting we visit the property and prepare a detailed written quote.

02

Can laminate go over existing tiles?

Yes, if the tiles are sound and the floor is flat. It sits on an underlay, so nothing needs breaking up; the floor rises slightly and doors sometimes need trimming.

03

Which laminate works in a kitchen or bathroom?

One with a water-resistant core and sealed joints. Even so, next to the shower or bath we recommend porcelain tiles.

04

What does the AC rating mean?

It shows wear resistance. AC4 is usually enough for a home; shops and busy areas are better with AC5.
