Replacing or motorising shutters in Ciutat Vella
In 1960s and 70s buildings in areas such as El Barri Gòtic and El Raval, shutter boxes are built into the masonry, uninsulated and with a screwed-on cover. When we replace the shutter we open the box, change the axle and strap winder and line the inside so air stops coming in.
When we replace shutters in areas such as Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera we also look at the box cover: if it is broken or uninsulated, we fit an access cover with a draught seal. That way the axle can be reached without breaking anything and the box stops being a cold spot.
