Wood floors in Ciutat Vella, room by room

In 1960s and 70s flats in areas such as El Barri Gòtic and El Raval we usually lay parquet over the existing terrazzo on an impact-sound underlay. That avoids breaking up the floor and cuts footfall noise to the flat below, something many residents' associations ask for.

When we lay solid parquet in houses in areas such as Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera, we then sand it in several passes, vacuum thoroughly and apply varnish or oil. A light sand between coats keeps the finish even to the touch.

During the visit we check the base and its moisture and talk through the format; you then receive a detailed written quote. We also fit parquet in nearby areas: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí.

Frequently asked questions

01

Parquet flooring installation in Ciutat Vella: which areas do you cover?

We do this work in Ciutat Vella, in areas such as El Barri Gòtic, El Raval, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, La Ribera and La Barceloneta, and also nearby: Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc and Sant Martí. Before starting we visit the property and prepare a detailed written quote.

02

Can parquet go over underfloor heating?

Yes, with a stable, fairly thin board, usually engineered wood glued down, and a dry screed. The heating must have completed its start-up cycle first.

03

Floating or glued-down parquet?

Floating boards sit on an underlay and are easier to replace; glued-down boards transmit less footstep noise and feel more solid. We decide based on the base, format and use.

04

Does the wood need to sit in the home before fitting?

Yes. It should acclimatise in the room, as the manufacturer specifies, so it does not move later with changes in humidity.
